Toolpaths: 2-D Swept

STEP 1. Select MAIN MENU, FILE, GET, select 2DSWEPT.MC8 to retrieve the file for the geometry shown in Figure 1a . (If you have not created the geometry before, construct the geometry shown in Figure 1a and save it as 2DSWEPT.MC8)
STEP 2. Open 2DSWEPT.MC8 . Select MAIN MENU, TOOLPATHS, JOB SETUP.
Enter Z=0.5. Keep stock origin at the center as shown in Figure 1b. Select BOUNDING BOX, WINDOW. Create the window around the geometry and press DONE. Select DISPLAY STOCK, FIT SCREEN TO STOCK. Select Aluminum 6061-T6. Press OK.

STEP 3. Select MAIN MENU, TOOLPATHS
STEP 4. Select NEXT MENU, WIREFRAME
STEP 5. Select SWEPT 2-D
STEP 6. Define the ACROSS CONTOUR 1 by selecting SINGLE and clicking on the arc as shown in Figure 2.

STEP 7. Define the ALONG CONTOUR 1 by selecting MODE, SECTION and clicking on the section as shown in Figure 3.
STEP 8. Select DONE.
STEP 9. Enter the intersection of the across and along contours by selecting INTERSECT and clicking on the arcs as shown in Figure 4.

STEP 10. In the dialog box, select the following 2D Swept Parameters as follows:
Across cut distance: 0.01
Across: Roll cutter around SHARP corners and set Cutter Compensation in Computer LEFT/RIGHT (This will be determined automatically by the computer depending on the direction of chain you selected for ACROSS).
Along: Roll cutter around SHARP corners and set Cutter Compensation in Computer LEFT/RIGHT (This will be determined automatically by the computer depending on the direction of chain you selected for ALONG)..
Cutter Diameter: 0.25 sphere.
Cutter Radius: 0.125
Stock to leave: 0.00
Rapid Depth : 1.00
Tip Comp: Center
Sync Option: None
Click OK when finished with the parameters.

STEP 11. Select MAIN MENU, TOOLPATHS, NEXT MENU
STEP 12. Select WIREFRAME, SWEPT 2-D
STEP 13. Define the ACROSS CONTOUR 1 by selecting SINGLE and clicking on the arc as shown in Figure 7.
STEP 14. Define the ALONG CONTOUR 1 by selecting MODE , SINGLE and clicking on the arc as shown in Figure 8. Click DONE.

STEP 15. Enter the intersection of the across and along contours by selecting INTERSECT and clicking on the arcs as shown in Figure 9.

STEP 16. Select the same 2-D swept parameters as in STEP 10 with the exception that Across and Along Cutter Compensation in Computer will be given automatically after the chain direction is selected. Click DONE.
STEP 17. Select MAIN MENU, TOOLPATHS, NEXT MENU
STEP 18. Select WIREFRAME, SWEPT 2-D
STEP 19. Define the ACROSS CONTOUR 1 by selecting SINGLE and clicking on the arc as shown in Figure 11.
STEP 20. Define the ALONG CONTOUR 1 by selecting MODE , SINGLE and clicking on the arc as shown in Figure 12. Click DONE.

STEP 21. Enter the intersection of the across and along contours by selecting INTERSECT and clicking on the arcs as shown in Figure 13. The 2-D swept surface will be displayed as shown in Figure 14.

STEP 22. Select MAIN MENU, TOOLPATHS, OPERATIONS. In the TOOLPATHS MANAGER dialog box click SELECT ALL, POST . SAVE NC and NCI files. Select VERIFY. (Note that in the VERIFY CONFIGURATION MENU select USE JOB SETUP VALUES). The following Figure 15 (isometric) and Figure 16 (Top) will be displayed by VERIFY.
STEP 23. SAVE the geometry and toolpaths as 2DSWEPT.MC8
